I saw this in vinyl yesterday and picked it up. It sounds 100x better on my (roommate’s) stereo than through headphones. “Truth is told & like weeds we will grow” (Source: Spotify) |

I haven’t listened to Black Cross in years, and it’s still awesome. You’ll notice Ryan Patterson from Coliseum singing backup vocals and an obvious rip-off of “The Broken Vow” by Converge towards the end. (Source: Spotify) |

It’s almost impossible to overstate the importance of DC music legend Ian MacKaye, who today celebrates his 50th birthday. MacKaye’s contributions to the world of music are myriad, from his days with Minor Threat and Fugazi, to his work with Dischord Records, the music scene has never been the same. When I was in middle school a friend played “Red Medicine” for me and told me that the guys in the band were the ones who put the record out. It blew my mind that people could do that, and immediately changed my outlook on life. Yesterday I got a new record player and the first thing the needle touched was “The Argument.” It only made sense. Happy birthday, Ian. (Source: welovedc.com) |

Punk and hardcore's latest heroes: Massachusetts women
I haven’t seen Megan in probably 7 years but she’s always had one of the most positive, can-do outlooks on life of anyone I’ve ever met. This is a great piece about a few of the active female-fronted punk bands in Boston. Get Laid is the only one I know, but I’ll definitely be listening to that (free) Curmudgeon album all day tomorrow. |
